This post is intended to help you have a positive mind set of the possibilities of trading Futures. The amount of money to be made trading depends on how disciplined the trader is in waiting for the best trades, It is not easy to sit in a chair for 6 hours waiting for a perfect setup. Anxiety sets in and most people want to see the trade working and making money, and can’t bear to sit there for 6 hours and not make any money for that day. But sitting and waiting for the perfect setup is the key to making a lot of money trading,

Look at the excel sheet calculations, Lets say you started off with a $500 account trading 2 contracts with a 12 tick stop loss and T1 = 18 ticks and T2 = 36 ticks and you are trading method you have back tested and know to have high probabilities in trade entries and reaching targets. Lets look at 10 trades, and being conservative lets say you only found these 10 trades in one month or 20 trading days and only two out of the 10 hit the stop loss of 12 ticks. You sat at your computer 6 hours a day waiting for the correct trades in the method you are trading and at the end of 1 month you doubled your trading account and now have $1,091.73 in the account. In this scenario we will stay with the same risk/reward ratio and trade 2 contracts per $500. With $1,000 in the account we can trade 4 contracts for the next month.

After 2 months in this scenario, you have your initial $500 + $591.73 + $1,183.46 = $2,275.19 and you have worked 6 hours a day for 40 days = 240 hours earning profits @ $7.39 per hour to this point, With $500 you traded 2 contracts the first month and with $1,000 you traded with 4 contracts the 2nd month so with $2,000 lets calculate with 8 contracts the third month.

At the end of the 3rd month trading 8 contracts in this scenario you made an additional $2,366.91 and able to double your contracts again for the 4th month making $4,733.82 for a total in your account now of $9,375 earning overall profits @ $19.5 per hour overall time spent to this point with a total of 480 hours sitting at your computer waiting for perfect trades. We can calculate 2 more months and see where you would be after investing 6 months day trading. With $9,375 you can trade 2 contracts per $500 or 18 contracts.

After trading for 6 months in this scenario, 20 trading days per month, patiently waiting for the correct trades and in this scenario you have made a total of $41,328 with a starting balance of $500 which is the account size we will start you off at if you pass our evaluation course. During this 6 month period you worked 20 trading days @ 6 hours per day X 6 months working a total of 720 hours profiting @ $57 per hour for all your time spent trading. You can do the math for what this scenario would make after a year with these calculations. There is no way to guarantee future results, these are based on 10 trades a month with a scenario of what would happen if the trades made these targets and only two losses. This is conservative calculations so that you can get the correct mindset that even a small account traded correctly can do really well. Even if you only took 5 trades a month and this 6 month projection took 1 year, it would still be a great year in this scenario starting off with $500. The key to making good results is to be patient and able to sit at your computer for 6 hours a day and only take your best setups even if you make no entries for that day.
